Dad was out of town just before his birthday (and functioning on 3 hours of sleep here), so we managed to make a special red velvet cake (his favorite) for him while he was gone. Found a new recipe (that I managed to mess up slightly) in the latest Southern Living for a Peppermint Red Velvet Cake. Looks like a candy cane inside! Awesome Peppermint Cream Cheese Frosting!
Oh, and here's one of Little Buddy, too. He got a bike for his birthday (before we made the cake), so he wanted his cake to say "Happy Bike Day"! (Wow, you can really tell a difference in the pictures since we got the camera lens fixed, too! Dad's pic is much better!)

Both those cakes look pretty good.
I agree, both cakes look great! Peppermint cake sounds wonderful! Mmmm... imagining a scoop of peppermint ice cream on the side!
